Our Impact

Olivia's Story

Goals and Outcomes

In 2022-23, Circle of Friends served over 65 different youth in our community, from the ages 5-18. Circle of Friends entered its 12th year in 2023 and our success is based on our volunteer mentors who are staying longer.  Almost half of our mentors have been in their mentorship for over 6 years.

Short-Term Outcome Goals
  • Social Development
  • Learning Success
  • Improved Physical & Emotional Health
  • Ethical Decision Making

Long-Term Outcome Goals
  • Acquire high school graduation or GED & secured a post secondary plan
  • Avoid the Juvenal Justice System
  • Avoid Teenage Parenting

Ultimately, the outcome we are striving for is to create generational change, that ends the cycle of poverty experienced by our youth and their families.

Testimonials

Picture
"Sometimes an idea can make you see the possibilities of being able to change someone’s life and in doing so, you change your own life."

- Mentor of Kindergarten girl

Picture
"The changes are small but they begin to build up to a fuller, broader life experience. Through generosity of local organizations and individuals who donate their time and talents my little friend has been able to take art lessons, horseback riding lessons and visit the museum."

-Mentor of 1st grade girl

"Circle of Friends has had a positive impact on my students. They experience an increase in self-confidence and light up when they tell me that their mentor is coming to spend time with them. The mentors are wonderful role models who treat the children with respect and exhibit a genuine caring attitude towards their students."

- 2nd Grade Teacher, Sisters Elementary School

"My little friend has visited new places, has had new experiences and she has someone to play LEGOS with and talk to – and my full focus is on her. She is learning about boundaries and respect."
